Miriam, 72, from Jersey City, spent a week with us to improve her French through total immersion and explore Lyon. Here is her story:

Full immersion in French - May 16–22, 2026

My full immersion in French with Hélène was so perfect that it would be impossible to imagine anything better. Immersed in the French language from morning to night, I learned a great deal. Hélène and I talked and discussed a wide variety of topics. We went on tours of Lyon, a city filled with historic architecture in shades of ochre and pastel. We visited museums, took a cruise on the Saône River, attended a Guignol puppet show, and went to a vineyard about 30 minutes from Lyon.

Hélène and her family are kind and welcoming. I practiced my four language skills—speaking, listening, reading, and writing—in a comfortable and warm home. And that’s not all; the meals prepared by Hélène were delicious and creative. Who could ask for more?

My full immersion program with Hélène as my French teacher, tour guide, and extraordinary chef was wonderful. With her husband, Laurent, who contributed a lot to the conversations during dinners, and also with the presence of their adorable dog, every day ended after many happy hours.

I fully enjoyed and learned with Hélène and her family. This week of total French immersion will always be one of the best memories of my life.
