Week of learning French in Lyon - From April 4 to 10, 2026

Cumba's testimony:

I spent a week with Helene and her husband, Laurent, and their dog, Kickass (she’s SO gentle!), learning French and eating VERY well!

Helene was a warm and wonderful teacher; very patient, spoke slowly when needed, and corrected gently. She combined listening experiences with viewing of videos, vocabulary development and oral expression. It was easy to learn with someone who was warm, kind and funny.

During our outings around Lyon, Helene introduced me to the history of the city, including touring very historic buildings and walks around Lyon. I learned to use the transit system (which is very well organized). There’s a lot to see here, and I feel like I have been well educated here!

Helene also gave me some ideas to continue my exploration of the city (I booked another week at an Airbnb after my immersion was over). They include visiting the large Parc de Tete de L’Or, dining at a “bouchon” and trying out a communal dining meal with “Les Petites Cantines.” Bookshops and river walks, chocolate shops and more museums await.

I highly recommend Helene as a French teacher (and chef; the meals were top!). If you haven’t yet had an immersion experience, you should try it; it really boosts your understanding of French culture and language, and you will gain a friend. It broadens your experience of the world, which is no small thing!
